nammMattI will be heading to Winter NAMM 2018 next week, 21 years after my first NAMM in 1997. ?I went last year, and while there is not much in terms of industry change year over year, there are other great reasons to attend. ?What are they? ?Read on!

A3E Summit

The Advanced Audio Applications Exchange, or A3E, is about exchanging ideas, information, and intelligence between audio developers, musicians, music personnel and people from related fields. ?They offer a variety of classes ranging from the latest music production techniques to how to develop your own boutique pedal effect. But the learning does not stop there.

TEC Tracks

These are free sessions focused mainly on topics for people who work on sound, studio, or stage environments. ?They are a bit more technical in nature. ?Last year I took a class on room design for critical listening environments, and developing sound for VR. ?I am particularly interested in this year?s presentation on ?The Project Studio of 2025?.? But there is still more!

IMG_2673Breakfast Sessions

Breakfast sessions feature a free full breakfast buffet, an opening musical performance, and feature a talk on aspects of the music business ?In the past I have seen presentations with people like Larry Fishman [ President, Fishman Transducers, Inc ], Henry Juszkiewicz [ CEO of Gibson Brands, Inc.] and Guy Kawasaki [ Former Chief Evangelist at Apple ]. ?There is so much useful information at these presentations that you really have to just pick a few things to take away and work on. ?There is no way to capture it all!? But there is more NAMM U.

Ryan_SargentClasses

Throughout the day, there are classes on all aspects of the music business from online marketing to how to run a music lesson program at a music store. ?Whatever slice of the music pie interests you, there will be a class you will want to take. And of course, there is still more.

Live Performances

After a long day of visiting hundreds of exhibitor booths, it is great to be able to take in a show. ?There are usually shows all night in the lobbies of both the hotels adjacent to the Anaheim Convention center. ?There are concert events at many booths all during the show, as well as special events all over Anaheim.
